January is National Get Organized Month (GO)

Now is the perfect time to start getting organized. It's no accident that Get Organized Month falls in January - the start of a new year and new beginnings. If getting organized sounds overwhelming to you... take a deep breath and tell yourself that "you can do it!".

One small thing you can do right now that will have a HUGE impact on your life is to go out and purchase a brand new time management system for the year 2010 (if you haven't already). It can be either paper or electronic, whichever suits you best. The most important thing is that you use only ONE.

Plug (or write) in all of your important dates into your new time management system. i.e. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Vacation Days, Car Maintenance Days, Medical & Dental Checkups, etc. Once finished, you can instantly feel better knowing:
  • Your mind is now free for other things
  • You won't miss a single birthday or anniversary this year
  • You already have important dates scheduled and everything else can fall in around those dates
Make it a habit to start writing your 'to-do's in your planner on the day you plan to do them (no more sticky notes posted everywhere and no more overwhelmingly long 'to-do' lists). As you accomplish each task check them off so you know they're done. Take 10 minutes to review your planner at the end of each day... whatever you didn't get done, move to the next day. Simple as that!

Customize your planner to suit your own needs and make it an extension of YOU. Keep it near you at all times and refer to it often.
